It is February...
CHD AWARENESS MONTH!!
Let's take a trip down memory lane, and remember what makes February so special for Sabrina's Cupcakes, and how we can change the lives of families all over the US. (and someday, the world!!)
- A Congenital Heart Defect (CHD) is when the heart or blood vessels near the heart don't develop normally before birth.
- It is the #1 Birth defect in the USA.
- 1 in 100 babies are born with a CHD.

This is my cousin, Ellie. She LOVES Merry-go-rounds!
Ellie was born with Hypo-plastic Left Heart Syndrome, aka HPLHS.
An underdeveloped left side of the heart. The aorta and left ventricle are too small and the holes in the artery and septum did not properly mature and close.
In her 6 years of life (holy cow, I can't even believe she's THAT big!!!) She has gone through a lot. 3 major surgeries, lots of stress, pain, and grumpy days. But we don't hang on that stuff. We hang on to these days...
There are Thousands of kids born with similar CHDs, but not every kid gets the opportunities that Ellie has been blessed with. That's why I am here today, as I go from place to place, handing out cupcakes, so everyone can learn from Ellie like I have.
As always, Ellie's Entourage will be part of the Linn County Heart Walk this year!!
